FAQs

  • I am not paneled with insurance, but I do offer superbills you can submit to your insurance for possible full or partial reimbursement. If you have out-of-network benefits, our sessions can count towards your deductible if you haven't met it yet!

Please see Therapy Services Provided (located at the bottom of my homepage) for further details on my fees.

Not taking insurance allows me to devote more time to your care and less time to insurance paperwork.

By being out-of-network, I can maintain your privacy and limit the amount of information insurance companies have about your mental health care.

By selecting an out-of-network therapist, you can get more specific on your therapy needs and find a therapist who is the best fit for you!

  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale options based on need. Please first contact your insurance to inquire about “out-of-network benefits,” as you may be eligible for reimbursement. From there, please contact me to inquire if I have any current sliding scale spots available.

  • Yes! I offer Walk and Talk Therapy at two lovely local parks in South Seattle and Des Moines, WA. Please explore my Walk and Talk Therapy page for more information.

  • I offer virtual family sessions for parents, adult children, siblings, or relatives, who are supporting a loved one in crisis or with a chronic mental illness.

Please note: I do not offer family sessions with your loved one present. The focus is meant to be on you and your family member(s) that are supporters/caregivers so you can learn tools and get the support you need for yourself to better assist your loved one. That is very difficult to do when they are present, which is why I recommend them having a separate therapist they can work with.

Reach out for a free consult to inquire if this is a good option for your family! Please explore my family caregiver page for more information.

  • I have a 48-hour cancellation policy to avoid being charged for a session. I understand life circumstances or emergencies can arise, so I do make some exceptions that I have laid out in my consent forms that we can review together.

  • Individual sessions are 50 minutes and intakes are 80 minutes. Therapy is most effective through weekly sessions. However, I’m open to setting up weekly, bi-weekly or monthly recurring sessions if that makes more sense for you. If you are needing an additional session outside of our scheduled time, please reach out to request one and I will do my best to accommodate.

  • We will complete a comprehensive assessment to get to know you and your needs so we can start working on your goals. We will also review policies, procedures, and expectations, and go over any questions or concerns you may have.

  • Schedule through me directly, either by text/call: (206) 350-8197, or email: michelle@rootsofcompassiontherapy.com.

  • At the moment I don’t, but I hope to offer this in the future, as I am a big proponent of group therapy.

  • If we decide to move forward together after our phone consult, I will send you instructions for creating an account with Spruce Health, my telehealth platform, as well as Sessions Health, my electronic health record (EHR) portal. You will be asked to sign consent forms and complete intake paperwork in the portal. Forms must be completed at least 24 hours prior to your intake.

  • I use Sessions Health for storing all documentation and records. Sessions Health has a confidentiality policy and I maintain HIPAA compliance for my notes. I am also using a HIPAA compliant phone and email service through Spruce Health and Google Workspace. With all platforms, I have Business Associate Agreements (BAA) that follow HIPAA practices.

  • Roots of Compassion has a dual meaning. As someone that cares deeply about plants, animals, and the environment, I also support my clients in resolving their problems (at the root) in a compassionate way.
